Job Description

Motion Canada is currently recruiting for a Millwright Apprentice in our Prince George, BC, service center. Hydraulic and mechanical experience is preferred. A solid mechanical aptitude, great attitude, and a desire to learn a fantastic trade are required.

The successful candidate will be trained in the Mi Repair & Services methods to rebuild, maintain , and optimize hydraulic and mechanical components & systems. This exciting and challenging position will report into the Shop Foreman.  We are looking for a 1st or 2nd year Apprentice who wants to grow their career long term with a dynamic and fast growing company!

The position of Millwright Apprentice is a key role in our facility, contributing greatly to our success. The person in this role must deliver quality work, have an excellent work ethic, be dedicated and must be willing and eager to provide premium service experience to our customers in the shop and the field. Scope

An Apprentice Millwright in our Prince George Service Shop team will:

  • Learn to work safely in an industrial shop and on customer sites.
  • Learn to read and understand diagrams, schematics and drawings.
  • Learn to inspect & examine machinery & equipment to detect & investigate irregularities & malfunctions.
  • Learn to assemble, rebuild to OEM standards or higher, install and commission machinery & equipment using precision tools, hand tools, power tools, & welding equipment
  • Learn to operate mobile equipment, hoists, etc. safely to position machinery components & parts during repair, assembly installation and commissioning
  • Learn to clean, lubricate & perform other routine maintenance work on machinery
  • Participation in shop and field projects as required supporting company objectives

Key Accountabilities:

Safety:

  • Safely operate shop equipment, machining tools and welding equipment
  • Understand and adhere to company safety standards and government safety regulations at all times in the workplace.
  • Consistently work to eliminate safety issues or mitigate safety risks when elimination is not possible
  • Participate in regular scheduled toolbox meetings and safety meetings

Quality:

  • Always work to the highest level of quality
  • Maintain constant compliance with our  Motion Quality System
  • Produce accurate and detailed documentation including inspection, rebuild and testing reports
  • Provide high quality rebuilds with fine tolerances and high standards
  • Recognize and document non-conformances and participate in root cause analysis, corrective actions and preventative actions to ensure the highest levels of quality in our products and services.

Scheduling:

  • Manage time effectively
  • Prioritize work based on due dates to ensure customers' needs are being met

Customer Service:

  • Ensuring a high-level of internal and external customer service, including providing technical assistance, problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Responsibility for ensuring quote times and repair turn-around times meet customer expectations
  • May be require to be on-call nights or weekends, depending on customer needs
  • Must be willing and able to participate in field services when required
  • Ensure appropriate information and photos are compiled on repair services to give customer a very high understanding of the component condition, repairs required and repairs completed

  • Must be willing and able to seek out and participate in relevant training including, but not limited to online courses, internal cross training, in house training sessions and external training sessions
  • Must be able and willing to cross train less experienced team players

Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic mechanical aptitude required
  • Basic understanding of precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to make decisions with confidence
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills required
  • Able to understand principles of mechanical systems.
  • Able to analyze and solve technical challenges in a practical manner
  • Able to work independently as well as a part of a team
  • Able to read and write English language proficiently.
  • Reliability, organization and attention to detail required
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Good driving record required

Education & Experience:

  • Moderate computer skills required (Outlook, Word & Excel)
  • Current safety certifications, forklift training, and overhead crane training are an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in any of the following disciplines are an asset: Inspection, failure analysis, rebuilding, testing and reporting in the area of hydraulic components & systems, gear reducers, lubrication systems, centrifugal pumps, etc.
