Summary

The Facilities Engineering & Automation Manager will serve as the on-site engineering and maintenance resource at NAPA distribution center facilities to support run-state operations. The role will be responsible for overseeing the upkeep and repair of the facilities physical structure and systems, troubleshooting issues with automation equipment, planning and managing maintenance activities, driving continuous improvement activities, and managing projects related to facility upgrades. This role is crucial for the effective long-term operation of our supply chain facilities.

Responsibilities

Facilities Engineering & Maintenance

  • Oversee and conducts maintenance and repair of physical infrastructure, including automation systems, mechanical systems, and building systems.
  • Lead and develop field engineering and maintenance team as applicable to sustain run-state operations across respective site(s).
  • Develop, implement, and conduct the site’s preventative maintenance (PM) program ensuring compliance, frequency optimization, and alignment with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specs.
  • Oversee utilities and PIT and Automation equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.
  • Establish and track KPI’s for maintenance effectiveness (MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, and unplanned downtime).
  • Plan and manage facilities’ support staff and contracts, including but not limited to overseeing contractors, in-house and/or external janitorial services, landscaping services, etc.
  • Lead root cause analytics to determine and eliminate chronic failures and causes of downtime.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA, NFPA, EPA and company safety and regulatory standards.
  • Utilize reliability engineering tools (FMEA, etc) to extend asset life and improve performance.
  • Serve as subject matter expert, providing technical support, training, and guidance to staff and technicians as applicable.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of the annual budget.

Process & Project Management

  • Analyze warehouse processes to identify opportunities and implement improvements.
  • Use data analytics and KPIs to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and track improvement plans.
  • Manage projects related to warehouse or facility upgrades, from initial planning to completion.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including architects, contractors, operations, and other departments.
  • Provide support in tracking project progress, timelines, and budgets; ensuring that all aspects of the project are on-time and within allocated resources.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings to communicate project status, risks, and mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Automation Engineer or similar role, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 2 years’ people management experience.
  • Passion for understanding of supply chain automation technologies and their operation.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and controls systems; along with maintenance area 5S. This applies to automation, forklift, and building systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering concepts, such as failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and root cause analysis (RCA)
  • A proactive, flexible, and deadline-focused mindset. · Experience with Warehouse Management System – Manhattan preferred
  • OSHA knowledge as it relates to maintenance and project implementation activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Powered industrial truck certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects through all phases from planning to activation.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Demands / Working Environment

  • Work Environment: Warehouse and construction working elements.
  • Travel: Ability to travel as needed from site to site, up to 20%.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry objects of varying weights, 60 lbs. pounds or more, depending on job duties.
  • Pushing and Pulling: Capability to push and pull carts, pallet jacks, or other equipment loaded with materials throughout the warehouse. This may involve pushing or pulling heavy loads over extended distances or up ramps.
  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often for the duration of a shift. Warehouse employees need to be able to move around the warehouse facility to pick orders, stock shelves, or perform other tasks.
  • Bending and Stooping: Capacity to bend, stoop, squat, and reach to retrieve items from shelves, bins, or storage racks. Employees need the ability to access items throughout the warehouse at various heights and angles.
  • Climbing: Can climb ladders or stairs to access elevated storage areas or perform maintenance tasks. Warehouse employees need to have the capacity to work at heights to include open floor mezzanines and follow safety protocols for ladder use.
  • Operating Equipment: Proficiency in operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and order pickers. Depending on the job role, employees must pass certification or training programs to operate certain equipment safely.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to handle small objects, operate machinery controls, and perform tasks requiring precision and accuracy. This may include picking and packing items, labeling products, or assembling shipments.
  • Repetitive Motion: Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as scanning barcodes, sorting items, or packaging products, throughout the shift. Employees should be able to maintain productivity while performing repetitive motions safely.
  • Physical Endurance: Stamina and endurance to work in a fast-paced environment and meet productivity targets. Warehouse employees need to have the capacity to work long hours, weekends, or overtime during peak periods.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to following safety protocols and guidelines to prevent workplace accidents and injuries. Employees should be vigilant about potential hazards in the warehouse environment and take appropriate precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
