Reporting To: Transport Manager

Job Purpose

To ensure that all transport operations at the Rotherham site remain fully compliant with UK transport legislation, DVSA requirements, Operator Licence obligations, and company policies. The role supports safe, legal, and efficient fleet operations while promoting a strong compliance culture across the transport function.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Legal

  • Support and maintain full compliance with Operator Licence (O-Licence) requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to DVSA regulations, including drivers’ hours and Working Time Directive rules.
  • Oversee tachograph compliance, including analysis and follow-up of infringements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance records for drivers and vehicles.
  • Support preparation for DVSA audits, internal audits, and compliance inspections.
  • Assist with FORS or other accreditation compliance (if applicable).

Fleet & Vehicle Compliance

  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules, MOTs, inspections, and servicing.
  • Ensure defect reporting procedures are followed and documented.
  • Track and manage daily walkaround check compliance.
  • Work closely with maintenance providers to ensure timely rectification of defects.

Driver Compliance & Training

  • Verify and monitor driver licence checks and CPC validity.
  • Support driver inductions, compliance briefings, and refresher training.
  • Review tachograph reports and address infringements through coaching and corrective action.
  • Promote best practice in safe and compliant driving standards.

Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate transport compliance documentation and digital records.
  • Produce regular compliance reports for management review.
  • Investigate incidents, infringements, and compliance breaches as required.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and DVSA compliance standards.
  • Experience working within a transport or fleet compliance role.
  • Good understanding of drivers’ hours regulations and tachograph analysis.
  • Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within a distribution or automotive logistics environment.
  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – National or International (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience using transport management or compliance systems.

Personal Attributes

  • Highly organised and detail-oriented.
  • Proactive and able to challenge non-compliant behaviour professionally.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced logistics environment.

Working Hours

  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Monday to Friday (hours aligned with transport operation).
  • Flexibility may be required to support operational needs or audits.
