The GPC Global Technology Center team works on a wide range of projects, assisting in areas such as e-commerce and data platforms, supply chain solutions, selling systems, and cybersecurity. This is home to a team of highly skilled IT engineers who are dedicated to driving innovation and delivering cutting-edge solutions for GPC.

Position Purpose:

Seeking world-class talent to join the world’s leading distributor of bearings and mechanical power transmission parts. Specifically, this role will function as the head of engineering to architect the next generation cloud native service platform for Motion. Working with a highly talented team, you'll play a leadership role in building and running the future technologies of Motion.   

This is an engineering leadership role with responsibility for implementing the technology strategy and execution for Motion in partnership with GPC. This role will work as part of an agile group with product management to coordinate the delivery of domain-oriented, reusable services and APIs for use by internal and external partners.

This individual must be a technologist & engineer at heart and be comfortable in understanding the technology direction and being hands-on with the execution of the strategy. She/he must exhibit a deep understanding of modern technology stack and agile delivery models, demonstrated focus on customer experience, and must have a proven track record of modernizing legacy supply chain technologies at scale.

Close collaboration and alignment with a wide variety of both internal stakeholders and external vendors will be required.  As such, exceptional abilities in building and maintaining strong working relationships and organizational savvy will be required. High-level communication and presentation skills are required. The ability to attract, retain, and develop engineering talent will be critical.

Responsibilities:

  • Partnering with the cross-functional Motion team, implement the strategy and roadmap for modernizing across all functional domains.

  • Implement the technology platforms architecture and execute on the roadmap to support building out the capabilities needed.

  • Overall engineering accountability for services and integrations

  • Responsible for the delivery and support of the platform.

  • Responsible for simplifying the complexity of current platforms and reducing the technical debt and total cost of ownership.

  • Partner with peer leaders to accelerate and embed agile methodologies across the organization to increase customer-backed problem solving, to increase the pace of solution delivery, to accelerate innovation, and to enhance cross-functional collaboration.

  • Recruit, manage, and motivate a team of engineers to develop best-in-class solutions.

Requirements: 

  • 8+ years’ experience in software engineering delivery (including 2+ years in a leadership role).

  • Consistent track record of leadership, teamwork, and delivering high-impact results.

  • Extensive experience building enterprise-grade systems/applications supporting business priorities.

  • Ability to effectively share technical information, communicate technical issues and solutions to all levels of business.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects - can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize time, and communicate timeline to team members and stakeholders.

  • Ability and desire to take product/project ownership.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs.

  • Partner with Analysts and Data Scientists on delivering reliable data that powers machine learning models for intent-based search.

  • Must also have a broad and deep technical understanding of the technologies in this field, including but not limited to:

    • Experience in CI/CD, including automated quality assurance practices.

    • Hands-on experience with programming languages and frameworks – Java preferred.

    • Modern System Architecture Patterns.

    • Experience in designing real-time solutions, event-driven mechanisms, and publish/subscribe models.

  • Experience with cloud computing on at least one of the major providers (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure).

  • Experience working with modern NoSQL / SQL Databases.

  • Strong data management principles, around data architecture, modeling/design, data quality, security, data organization and operations.
