Staff Accountant

Job Summary

Reporting to an Accounting Manager, is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and in preparing basic financial reports. Records journal entries, performs variance analysis and account reconciliations. Processes reports to support account details and assists field personnel with issues and questions.

Position Performance Measures: (List the key performance indicators.)

  • Timely completion of tasks (maintaining/meeting deadlines on a daily/monthly and ad hoc basis)
  • Quality of tasks (accuracy - lacking errors and providing meaningful documentation to support entries and/or position when decisions are made)
  • Capacity (ability to maintain / manage volume of locations – which can be impacted by the complexity of said locations/business)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures general ledger accounts are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Journal entry preparation and entry Performs account reconciliations.
  • Assists field personnel with account analysis and research.
  • Evaluates trends, identifies, and investigates unusual or unexpected account variances.
  • Generates daily and monthly reports to assist in above duties.
  • Makes recommendations to resolve issues and makes corrections, as necessary.
  • Assists with monthly close process.
  • Performs other accounting research as needed.
  • Prepares sales tax returns and makes all payments.
  • Performs bank reconciliations.
  • Verifies transactions from electronic sales system.
  • Promotes teamwork between operational groups and departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Basic knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures as relates to general ledger accounting.
  • PeopleSoft experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially with Excel
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Team player

Physical Demands / Working Environment

  • Work performed in a typical office environment.
  • Ability to travel as needed, up to 15%.
