Sales & Use Tax Senior Analyst
Job Summary
The Sales & Use Tax Senior Analyst will be responsible for ensuring compliance with sales tax regulations and executing effective audit strategies. Their expertise in sales tax laws, audit procedures, and data analysis will be crucial in ensuring accurate reporting, mitigating risks, and optimizing tax-related processes.
Responsibilities
Sales Tax Compliance and Audit:
- Conduct detailed reviews and analysis of sales tax records, transactions, and filings to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations for sales tax audits.
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies, errors, or potential issues related to sales tax data and reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as finance, AP, AR, legal, IT and field operations, to gather necessary data and documents for audits and respond to tax inquiries from authorities.
- Prepare and submit required documentation, reports, and disclosures as part of audit responses, as well as various dashboard and reports for management related to audit timelines.
Audit Strategy and Risk Management:
- Assist Manager in implementing effective audit strategies to minimize sales tax exposure and liabilities.
- Conduct regular internal audits and assessments to identify potential risks and areas for improvement in audits.
- Demonstrate ability to understand and interpret different sampling methodologies such as statistical and block, and when to use them.
- Update and maintain tax exemption certificates and act a primary stakeholder in the ongoing project to improve the exemption management process.
- Stay updated with changes in sales tax regulations and assess their impact on the organization, providing recommendations for adjustments to ensure compliance.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Utilize advanced Excel data analysis techniques to extract, manipulate, and analyze large sets of sales tax data.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of sales tax-related activities.
Collaboration and Training
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide guidance, support, and training on sales tax compliance, audit procedures, and best practices.
- Consult with outside tax partner firm(s) on audit and compliance issues.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on sales tax matters, answering queries and providing insights to various teams within the organization.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, developments, and best practices in sales tax and share knowledge with the sales tax team and relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of combined experience in sales tax compliance and audit.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local sales tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in conducting sales tax audits, assessments, and the ability to identify and resolve compliance issues.
- Advanced Excel skills, including experience with data analysis, pivot tables, and formulas.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Persuasive communication and people skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree or relevant experience.
- Professional certifications, such as CMI or CMI Candidate
