SUMMARY:
The Electrician will perform electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs of underground mining equipment in permissible condition as defined by MSHA.
JOB DUTIES:
Perform electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs of underground mining equipment.
Maintain underground equipment in permissible condition as defined by MSHA.
Perform scheduled maintenance, and complete reports and records as required.
Perform other, non-maintenance tasks as assigned.
Perform motor and motor control trouble shooting and repairs.
Perform Trouble shooting and repair to heating elements in vulcanizing presses.
Maintain, repair, troubleshoot and install medium voltage electrical distribution systems – 24 vac/vdc to 480 ac volt systems
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Must possess high school diploma or GED.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Must have one (1) year underground mining experience.
Must be knowledgeable of State and Federal mining regulations pertaining to underground mining including electrical permissibility.
Must have demonstrated welding and fabrication skills.
Must have demonstrated operating, repairing, and troubleshooting skills on section and outby equipment. (Continuous miners, feeders, scoops, roof bolters, etc.)
Repair and trouble shoot conveyor service-related equipment, Vulcanizing presses, Belt winders.
Must have high safety standards for self and others.
Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to communicate and coordinate with coworkers and supervisors.
Must be willing to work any assigned shift, overtime, weekends and holidays.
Must be willing to work in shop and field with some overnight stays possible.
Must be able to troubleshoot from blueprints and service manuals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.
Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.
Walking ability will be judged according to SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.
Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height.
Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination.
Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have current MSHA electrical certification. (High, medium, and low voltage, underground) Medium 600 volt or lower High Voltage not necessary
Certificate Federal or PA AND WV
