Job Description

Payroll Supervisor

SUMMARY:

The Payroll Supervisor manages the daily operations of the payroll and commission systems for Motion. This position requires an understanding of the various federal and state laws and regulations affecting the payroll function, including but not limited to IRS regulations, state garnishment laws and banking practices. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the supervisor manages several direct reports and part of a team that processes payroll for over 9,000 employees across the US & Mexico.

 JOB DUTIES

  • Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, etc. to maintain payroll records.  Receives payroll data from Human Resources, or employees and verifies accuracy and applicability, then processes and updates payroll records in a timely manner.
  • Conducts audits and reviews error reports of data related employees and taxes.  Makes necessary adjustments to correct errors.  Effectively coordinates with various payroll providers, Managers, Human Resources, and employees, as needed.
  • Prepares ACH for wire transfer requests for payroll deposits and tax payments; interface with the Corporate Treasury function, as necessary.
  • Responsible for all manual journal entries related to the Payroll accounts. Completes monthly accounting reconciliations for payroll related general ledger accounts.
  • Responsible for the coordination and oversight of the company inhouse commission system.
  • Acts as project lead in the consolidation and streamlining of payroll preparation for Motion with the objective of creating an efficient and customer-oriented payroll function.
  • Coordinates closely with Human Resources and Finance to work through issues and resolves concerns associated with electronic feeds, payroll reconciliations and other related items.
  • Produces regular reports from Workday and excel.
  • Oversees training of new payroll processors and ensures management is informed of potential payroll, employee relations or financial/tax related issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline and three (3) to five (5) years of experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Must possess good detail orientation and organizational skills; a focus on accuracy with respect to employee paychecks is critical
  • Must be able to lead and coach others
  • Medium to high level proficiency in Excel
  • Proficient level of written/verbal communication skills; effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and develop business relationships with a diverse range of individuals
  • Experienced at general ledger account reconciliations and determining/booking journal entries
  • Good analytical, continuous improvement and process orientation skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires occasional Sunday and holiday work.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Payroll Professional certification preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 5-10 Direct Reports

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY: No
