Job Summary
The Transportation Planner will coordinate and execute the transportation of first and middle-mile freight. This role partners closely with NAPA’s suppliers, carriers, private fleet, and distribution centers to effectively manage freight flow.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for driving on-time service, cost efficiency, and supplier/carrier/DC relations.
- Leverages and optimizes carrier and private fleet resources to meet supplier and DC requirements.
- Plans shipments using Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Serves as a subject matter expert on TMS functionality.
- Manages daily operations including planning and monitoring of Truckload and LTL shipments.
- Provides excellent customer service, from scheduling to on-time pickup and delivery.
- Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of key customers and suppliers in area of responsibility.
- Communicates daily with suppliers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
- Proactively monitors carrier tender acceptance and routing guide effectiveness, identifying trends and cost/service improvement opportunities.
- Requests quotes from carriers and negotiates spot rates.
- Develops and implements cost-effective solutions to continuously improve efficiency and enhance service levels.
- Supports SOP maintenance and ensures operational best practices are in line with customer requirements.
- Actively participates in training and knowledge-sharing; provides backup support for teammates.
- Effectively communicates to all levels of the organization.
- Supports other supply chain projects or duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to thrive within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Customer First mindset.
- Strong analytical, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
- Must have a positive attitude and ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that demonstrate an ability to develop relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems, preferably Manhattan Associates or Uber Freight (formerly Transplace).
- Experience with tactical supply chain planning processes such as carrier capacity planning and transportation planning.
- Experience with transportation management, carrier management, and fleet management.
Physical Demands / Working Environment
- Work performed in a typical office environment.
- Ability to travel as needed, up to 15%.
