Position Purpose:

We are seeking world-class talent to join the leading distributor of automotive and industrial replacement parts and value-added services, operating over 5,500 locations and servicing more than 20,000 sites across the U.S. and Canada. This position will serve as the Principal Engineer of a newly established team of engineers tasked with developing the next generation of IAM Directory services platforms at GPC. By collaborating with a highly skilled team, you'll play a crucial role in building and managing one of the largest automotive and industrial replacement parts operations in the world 

This engineering leadership role is responsible for facilitating IAM modernization, transformation, and execution for GPC’s unified IAM platforms.

The individual must be a technologist and engineer at heart, comfortable with implementing new technology and actively engaging in the execution of the strategy. They should demonstrate a deep understanding of the modern technology stack and agile delivery models, show a commitment to customer experience, and possess a proven track record in modernizing technologies.

Close collaboration and alignment with business teams, application development teams, and security will be essential. Therefore, exceptional skills in building and maintaining strong working relationships and organizational savvy are critical. High-level communication and presentation skills are necessary. The ability to attract, retain, and develop engineering talent will be vital.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical responsibility of architecture roadmap and vision of the various IAM domain and platforms
  • You will be responsible for developing and executing our global enterprise IAM strategy, standards, and practices.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure IAM, network, and cloud environments to meet business objectives and compliance requirements.
  • As the Principal Engineer, you will define the overall IAM Directory services and Authentication strategy to elevate our identity and access management position, ensuring our firm remains at the cutting edge of security and access technologies aligned with business objects
  • In your role in the Cyber leadership team will involve working with cross-functional stakeholders from product, architecture and engineering, design, cybersecurity, and operations teams to drive the overall transformation.
  • Leading and shaping the firm's IAM strategy will be your primary responsibility
  • Design and implement secure directory services, including LDAP, Entra ID , Ping Directory and Active Directory.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including security, IT, and business units, to understand access requirements and develop solutions that meet business needs
  • It is your responsibility to develop and implement plans to safeguard our firm's digital identities and restrict access to sensitive information
  • Continuously review and improve access controls and processes to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards
  • Effective communication is essential for interacting with executives and teams across the firm and explaining complex IAM concepts in a transparent manner
  • The responsibility is to oversee policies, manage risks, and ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Your responsibility will be to provide strategic leadership in formulating and executing a comprehensive IAM strategy that is aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with Tech Ecosystem leadership and cross-functional teams is of utmost importance.
  • Reviews business context for solutions to company challenges as well as defining the vision and requirements for the solution, recommending potential options, selecting the most optimal solution, and the development of a technical roadmap for the selected solutions.
  • Initiate both group and one-on-one meetings with senior management in order to gain a clear understanding of business drivers and functional requirements.
  • Lead design and architecture discussions for IT platforms engaging with other engineering teams across different domains and business units to ensure secure and scalable solutions.
  • Provides oversight on delivery to ensure industry best practices, standards, automation, quality, timeliness, operational readiness, continuous improvement and cost-effective solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to staff / lead engineers and the technical team within a domain(s)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Location:

  • GPC has two work locations to choose from, Duluth or Atlanta office.
  • We offer a Flexible Work Policy that permits eligible employees to work a hybrid remote schedule.

Desired Qualifications & Experiences: 

  • Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields, or equivalent experience
  • 10 (12+ preferred) years’ Experience developing, engineering, architecting, and leading identity and access management operations and technologies
  • Experience with identity and access management platforms and best practices
  • Experience in key IAM concepts and technologies (e.g. least privilege, privileged access, segregation of duties, role based access controls, attribute based access controls, conditional access, authentication, authorization, federation, multi-factor authentication, user provisioning, user attestation, secrets management, zero trust, and user lifecycle workflows)
  • Develop and execute strategies for managing customer identities, which include user registration, authentication, authorization, and user profile management
  • Well-versed in IAM-related protocols such as Entra ID, Azure AD, Active Directory, LDAP, Ping LDAP SAML, WS-Federation, OpenID, OAuth, , SCIM, SOAP, REST, JSON, XML/HTML
  • Experience developing and complying with policies, standards, and processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and time spent outside of comfort zone acquiring new skills
  • Technically creative and open-minded
