Payroll Manager
Summary Job Description
The Payroll Manager will oversee and manage the company-wide payroll processes for U.S. employees. This role will ensure consistent, high-quality care and service is provided by their team of Payroll, Garnishment, Tax, and Banking Specialists in a high-volume service center environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both payroll administration, accounting, and people management.
As a member of the Employee Service Center Management Team, interprets overall strategic vision as established by management, communicates overall plan to staff and ensures compliance with company operating philosophy.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
- Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures
- Maintain and develop staff through managing time and attendance, training and coaching individuals, and discipline
- Fosters a team environment to drive ownership of work and encourages team involvement and support around process improvement ideas
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates, etc.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
- Monitors changes and remains current on legal, regulatory or governmental requirements (e.g.,wage and hour, garnishments, tax matters, 401(k) and other benefit deductions)
- Liaise with auditors and manage payroll related audits by providing records and documentation as needed.
- Manage individual performance through goal planning, providing regular feedback, providing growth opportunities, and facilitating performance conversations
- Coordinates team projects and drives for results through task delegation and follow up
- Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
- Collaborate and work in conjunction with finance and HR teams for reporting, general ledger, special projects, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field or an equivalentcombination of education and experience
- Minimum of five years of experience processing payroll
- Three + years prior experience leading teams
- Demonstrated skills of leading and developing large payroll teams of ten or more employees into highly functioning teams
- Prior experience with HR/Payroll ERP, time and general ledger systems required
- Strong knowledge of payroll and tax practices and compliance
- Experience with HR administration and general exposure / knowledge of various HR functions (e.g., policy, compensation, employee relations, benefits, performance management, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of applicable Federal and State labor compliance laws (e.g., FLSA, FMLA)regulations that impact payroll
- Good interpersonal skills to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization
- Exposure to HR and/or case management technologies (e.g., case management, human capital management, etc.).
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Superior Customer Service skills
- Basic accounting skills
- Excellent processing skills and attention to detail
- Experience with Workday and Kronos Workforce Central strongly preferred
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and membership in a professional payroll organization a plus
