DOT Compliance Manager

Job Summary

The DOT Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet and driver safety, ensuring the protection of employees and the mitigation of vehicle risk. Under the direction of the Director of Safety, this position will lead the implementation of fleet and driver safety policies, procedures, and training programs to maintain a safe working environment. The DOT Compliance Manager will work closely with other departments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, monitor, analyze, and address driver compliance and non-compliance issues, ensuring swift resolution.
  • Manage internal and external compliance reporting, provide compliance advice, conduct investigations, and oversee training programs.
  • Monitor and enforce DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations to ensure full compliance.
  • Oversee driver qualifications, including medical cards, physicals, CDL, and driving records.
  • Administer driver training programs in alignment with company requirements, DOT regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain compliant files and records.
  • Conduct audits of drivers to ensure compliance and productivity, utilizing fleet management and tracking software.
  • Manage driver license renewals and MVRs and oversee medical card renewals drug testing program.
  • Review and manage accident/incident reports, coordinate claims with insurance carriers, and request Certificates of Insurance.
  • Maintain roadside inspections and citation records, addressing traffic and overweight violations.
  • Manage the SMS to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with company standards.
  • Monitor incidents and maintain records for not-at-fault and at-fault events.
  • Track monthly safety training topics and meetings for all drivers.
  • Serve as the administrator for fleet management software systems, staying updated on features and training opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of transportation compliance experience.
  • Expertise in DOT rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing vehicle safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Proficiency in fleet management and tracking software systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels in the company.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify potential fleet safety hazards and implement mitigation plans.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and other requirements.
