Job Summary

The NAPA Auto Parts Private Fleet is seeking a motivated individual with a desire to join a fast-paced, rewarding transportation Operations Team. Any individual interested in this position at one of our terminals must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and perform well under deadline pressure. Candidates are responsible to efficiently move palletized shipments and load trailers to maximize company standards, while also ensuring all transportation and DOT regulations are followed. The forklift operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the forklift equipment into/out of trailers on a continual basis during their entire shift duration. Must be a forward thinking, highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Productivity: At our freight terminals, we maintain a fast-paced cross-dock operation where our forklift operators transport freight to/from inbound/outbound trailers employing stacking, blocking, and bracing techniques to maximize load volume to our customers.
  • Quality: Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage. Report quality variances and maintain accurate scans/counts on all loads/orders.
  • Efficient loading “High-and-tight” using proper stacking techniques, load bars, and freight tables to maximize load volume and hit company goals for trailer utilization and load average. Able to mount/dis-mount forklift continually for entire shift duration and utilize proper lifting techniques while installing/removing load bars inside the trailers.
  • Housekeeping: Clean and maintain all trailers continuously during shift and keep terminal floor clean and free of debris.
  • Equipment: Daily, inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment. Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • Safety and Security: Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly area. Assist in maintaining the security of the dock. Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety. Comply with OSHA and DOT Standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience as a forklift operator.
  • Experience with sit down/stand up forklift a plus.
  • Forklift Certification

Physical Demands / Working Environment

  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry objects of varying weights, 60 lbs. pounds or more, depending on job duties. 
  • Pushing and Pulling: Capability to push and pull carts, pallet jacks, or other equipment loaded with materials throughout the warehouse. This may involve pushing or pulling heavy loads over extended distances or up ramps.
  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often for the duration of a shift. Warehouse employees need to be able to move around the warehouse facility to pick orders, stock shelves, or perform other tasks.
  • Bending and Stooping: Capacity to bend, stoop, squat, and reach to retrieve items from shelves, bins, or storage racks. Employees need the ability to access items throughout the warehouse at various heights and angles.
  • Climbing: Can climb ladders or stairs to access elevated storage areas or perform maintenance tasks. Warehouse employees need to have the capacity to work at heights to include open floor mezzanines and follow safety protocols for ladder use.
  • Operating Equipment: Proficiency in operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and order pickers. Depending on the job role, employees must pass certification or training programs to operate certain equipment safely.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to handle small objects, operate machinery controls, and perform tasks requiring precision and accuracy. This may include picking and packing items, labeling products, or assembling shipments.
  • Repetitive Motion: Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as scanning barcodes, sorting items, or packaging products, throughout the shift. Employees should be able to maintain productivity while performing repetitive motions safely.
  • Physical Endurance: Stamina and endurance to work in a fast-paced environment and meet productivity targets. Warehouse employees need to have the capacity to work long hours, weekends, or overtime during peak periods.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to following safety protocols and guidelines to prevent workplace accidents and injuries. Employees should be vigilant about potential hazards in the warehouse environment and take appropriate precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
