Position Mission:
The Corporate Safety Manager is responsible for supporting Corporate HSE program and systems. The Corporate Safety Manager will support the Director of Safety in continuously promote and maintain a proactive, collaborative compliance culture in the company while maintaining efficiency, safety, and the wellbeing of our employees.
Position Performance Measures:
- Perform Quarterly site Safety Audit
- Conduct Annual Hazard Assessments
- Monthly review and analysis of loss runs and accident reports
- Conduct weekly housekeeping assessments
- Develop facility Job Safety Analysis
- Ensure monthly safety meetings are completed
- Ensure monthly safety meetings are held and minutes distributed.
Responsibilities:
- Provide active leadership and support to implement safety initiatives and projects.
- Promote a safety culture of compliance and commitment.
- In alignment with corporate programs, assist sites with reviewing, developing, and implementing company safety procedures and standards.
- Provide facilitation, consultation, and support to management teams on safety initiatives.
- Assist in preparing the departmental budget, monitor spending, and direct the team in cost-effective operation
- Perform job hazard assessments and recommend measures to control exposures, personal protective equipment (PPE), work practices changes, and engineering controls.
- Observe employees while engaged in work activities to recognize safe work habits and coach for improvement as needed.
- Apply creative, constructive approaches to improve controls, processes, and procedures.
- In the event of an accident, ensure appropriate countermeasures are correctly identified to prevent reoccurrence utilizing a robust incident investigation process, including a 5-Why root cause analysis.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate compliance with program requirements.
- Interface with leadership and subject matter experts to identify and develop training content and materials.
- Provide support for completing quarterly safety audits, site inspections, and regulatory agency inspections.
- Audit recordkeeping practices and entries to ensure compliance with USAG standards and regulations.
- Assist with site-specific programs such as Hazardous Waste disposal, Hearing Conservation Programs, etc.
- Provide support for significant safety emergency response incidents.
- Compile, analyze, interpret environmental, health, and safety misses, including OSHA Recordable accidents, loss, and exposure data
- Work with local operations management team on environmental, health, and safety incidents, ensuring that all reports and decisions are correctly made
- Communicate with the corporate office to ensure facility alignment with Company policies, procedures, and OSHA and other compliance regulations
- Partner with Human Resources to manage workers' compensation claims
- Participate in projects, support USAG safety needs, and other duties as assigned
Experience, Education, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Safety & Health, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment employing 250+ employees preferred.
- Strong understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 regulations.
- Basic understanding of DOT requirements.
- Ability to plan and execute events, safety meetings, accident review meetings, and safety rewards initiatives.
- Proven ability to communicate efficiently and influence various individuals and groups across organizational lines is required.
- Able to effectively manage time, priorities, and resources. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment
- Self-Starter with the ability to be approachable and work well within a team setting.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Basic English skills, including reading, speaking, and writing. Spanish and Vietnamese a plus.
- Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or similar programs.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Corporate office setting
- Periodic standing/walking in unairconditioned warehouse facilities and retail stores.
- Exposed to vibrations and dust, with noise levels at moderate to low decibels
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers and handle or feel objects
- Other physical tasks required include pushing, reaching, climbing, and stooping
- Ability to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
- Must be able to travel throughout North America up to 50% of the time.
