Job Description

Summary

Under general supervision, the Heavyweight Belt Field Service Technician primarily performs installation, repair and maintenance of heavyweight conveyor belting in industrial facilities including but not limited to mining, aggregates, wood processing, and recycling facilities. The technician will become skilled in performing various types of mechanical and vulcanized belt splices. Additionally, the technician will perform other millwright tasks such as torch cutting, conveyor system tracking and conveyor component removal and installation.  

Duties

  • Performs on-site scheduled and emergency repair, preventative maintenance, and installation on a 24/7 on-call basis. Some night and weekend work with overnight travel required. Typical work week is 50+ hours
  • Demonstrates an understanding of conveyor system basics such as terminology and major component identification.
  • Performs crane rigging and crane signaling in accordance with industry standards to facilitate the lifting of belting, presses and tooling on and off conveyor systems
  • Performs millwright tasks such as torch heating and cutting as well as the removal and installation of conveyor components such as bearings, idlers, pulleys, gearboxes and motors. Performs basic tracking of a conveyor belt.
  • Performs mechanical and vulcanized belt splices using tooling such as knives, grinders and winches. Perform safe and correct setup and operation of vulcanizing presses.
  • Works in a safe, courteous and professional manner at all times. Serves as a customer liaison to Motion while on site.
  • Proactively provides technical support, training and recommendations on conveyor operation and maintenance to the customer.
  • Ensures that processes and environmental conditions comply with local and national regulatory agencies such as OSHA and MSHA, as well as Motion's safety standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in construction building trades is beneficial

Licenses/Registrations/Certifications

MSHA Part 46 or 48 Trained (Provided by Motion

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read measuring equipment and perform basic math calculations.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to operate manlifts, forklifts, DOT Class 1-6 trucks and hand power tools  safely.

  • Push/pull up to 100 pounds
  • Lift/carry up to 100 pounds
  • Lift bulky objects
  • Neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, reach and lift, ladder climb and carrying/crawling.
  • Working conditions may be indoor and/or outdoor. Noise level may be loud at times.
  • Working at heights from manlifts, platforms and elevated walkways. Safety harness required.
