Job Description

The Role:

Do you love to create and develop instructional courses and videos? Are you willing to try new things, experiment, and learn new tools? Do you love understanding and predigesting something complex and then creating engaging and simple training videos and tutorials? If you answered yes to these questions, then you would be someone who we are looking for to join our team!  We are the NAPA “Store Technology” group, a division of Genuine Parts Company, and we are looking for a Technology Trainer and Subject Matter Expert. We support our business of 6000+ stores nationwide with ERP applications that we continue to build and improve. We are looking to improve the way we educate and support our users through the many changes we make to our applications and minimize disruptions, which is where you come in! This fantastic role will report to a very supportive Store Technology Training Manager.

The Team:

This is an opportunity to work with a cross-functional team comprised of content and learning experts to enable successful user adoption of our evolving suite of ERP applications. Join us in taking on the challenge of revamping the learning experience for our large, physically dispersed, and diverse user base using a variety of channels and tools.

We are a team of folk who wear multiple hats. While each of us is highly skilled in a specific area we are effective because we can execute in related areas, and we are constantly learning from each other as we collaborate to solve learning challenges. If you have or can rapidly absorb and digest knowledge about our store systems and processes along with being a virtuoso at building and conducting engaging, interactive virtual training for software application users. You also measure and iterate learning content and delivery modes. If you are nimble, curious, willing to try new things, experiment, and learn new tools you are part of the missing piece on our team

This Role may be for you if you:

  • Can learn our applications, business context, and users to become a subject matter expert in very short order.
  • Have a background in training and/or developing training for software applications
  • Have some knowledge or an aptitude for instructional design
  • Can quickly master the process of course production to support video production from research and scripting to the final video.
  • Are eager to try new things.
  • Can balance independent work with collaborative work

What you will be doing in this awesome role:

  • Collaborate with product teams, other members of the training team and our field implementation team to design, develop and deliver learning experiences that include:

  7. Application training screencast videos
  8. Microlearning videos
  9. Promotional videos for new applications and new feature releases
  • Work with the video production team to help design course curriculum, set up storyboards, and review scripts/videos as part of the production process.
  • Partner with NAPA training to set up measurements to gauge the effectiveness of training and the need for training.
  • Work closely with team members delivering content across other channels like our Help & Learning site and digital adoption platform to act as a subject matter expert and reviewer as they create complimentary content. In this role, you will promote content reuse and avoid redundant content.
  • Collaborate and consult with the rest of the team to ensure a consistent voice and tone across products and channels as you review content.
  • Help develop video content standards and build a repository of reusable templates and video elements.

Skills/background you will need to bring to this role:

  • 5+ years’ experience in live and virtual training for software application users
  • May travel up to 20%

  • Track record of creating engaging and interactive learning experiences
  • Able to apply design thinking to create a positive learning and content experience.
  • Able to turn complex information into human understandable content that makes it easy for even less tech-savvy employees to use applications in their day-to-day work.
  • Current on the latest trends in adult learning, experiential learning, and motivation, as it applies to learning technology.
  • Some knowledge of Agile software development.
  • Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA is an advantage
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities

And if you have this even better:

  • Experience coordinating and managing a training development project from requirements and delivery to measuring effectiveness and extracting actionable insights with metrics.
  • Comfortable in an environment where we are transitioning to a more structured content management team with evolving processes.
  • Experience developing learning content for audiences who span a range of technical know-how.

What’s in it for you:

  • Robust and flexible remote work policy
  • Company culture of direct access to the leadership team
  • Working with a team of people who are making a difference and simplifying things
  • Awesome people to work with and brand to be a part of in this role
  • Stable company. Fortune 200 with a “family” feel
  • A culture of promotion from within, and an environment that nurtures creative problem solving
  • Great training, and ongoing development with support from multiple leaders and your team

Next Steps:

  • Please apply if you think this is a great fit for you! We will reach out to you if we find that you are fit for us. You will also need to provide work samples demonstrating your video production and training content skills. Samples should illustrate your ability to independently analyze a content or learning problem and apply design thinking in creating the solution.
