Job Description

Position Purpose:

Seeking world-class talent to join the world’s leading distributor of automotive and industrial replacement parts and value-added services operating 5,500+ locations and servicing more than 20,000 locations in the U.S and Canada. Specifically, this role will function as the engineer to build the next generation commerce platforms for GPC.  Working with a highly talented team, you'll play a key role to build and run one of the world’s largest automotive and industrial replacement parts operations.  

This is an engineering role with responsibility for enabling cloud transformation and execution for GPC’s customer domain platforms. 

This individual must be a technologist & engineer at heart and be comfortable in enabling new technology and being hands on with the execution of the strategy.  They must exhibit a deep understanding of modern technology stack and agile delivery models, demonstrated focus on customer experience, and must have a proven track record of modernizing technologies.

Close collaboration and alignment with business teams, application development teams and security will be required.  As such, exceptional abilities in building and maintaining strong working relationships and organizational savvy will be required.  High level communication and presentation skills are required. Ability to attract, retain, and develop engineering talent will be critical.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of Engineers and Senior Engineers
  • Maintain, develop, and support non-production and production systems
  • Helps define and adheres to team working agreements
  • Participates in all phases of the integration development lifecycle, including unit testing and ongoing support
  • Building and optimizing big data, ETLs, data pipelines and data sets
  • Data Modeling and designing of the data objects like tables and views
  • Setting up environments in Google cloud (GCP) environments
  • Daily attend team standups and agile ceremonies
  • Code, test and deploy the requirements detailed in the team user stories
  • Collaborate and work closely with product and other cross functional teams to achieve team goals and outcomes
  • Have a “test-first” attitude with a focus on automation
  • Employ best practices around observability, monitoring, and system resilience
  • Responsible for team’s product design, security, code, and documentation.
  • Guide and act as a resource to other engineers on the team
  • Other duties as assigned

Location:

  • GPC has two work locations to choose from, Duluth or Atlanta office.
  • We offer a Flexible Work Policy that permits eligible employees to work a hybrid remote schedule.

Desired Qualifications & Experiences

  • Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years’ experience in non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5 years’ strong hands-on coding experience in Python/Java and SQL
  • 3+ years’ experience with SQL and NOSQL data sources
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • In depth knowledge of Model and Design of DB schemas for read and write performance.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
  • Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark & Kafka Streaming, Python, Scala, Talend etc.
  • Experience with public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP),  preferably experience with Google Cloud services like Bigquery, GCS, Cloud Composer, PubSub..etc.
  • Experience in CI/CD, GitHub, GitHub Action, Jenkins, Terraform
  • Participate and Contribute to Design, Code and Documentation reviews.
  • Leading and mentoring engineers within the team.

Preferred Qualifications & Experiences: 

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • Experience in leading a development pod
  • Effectively communicate with the leadership and provide timely updates.
